This life, this world...

This life, this world …

I wonder how many of us actually have the patience and understanding to accept things as they are. It appears that most human beings are never content with things the way they are. Never happy to sit in one lane of traffic, never happy to watch one channel, never happy to listen to one radio station. Always jumping from thing to the next, always chasing, always looking for more, for better. Why do people have this insatiable desire to acquire more? How much is enough? When will they find what they seek? There is a saying of the prophet Muhammed (pbuh) to the effect: “If there were two valleys full of riches, for the son of Adam, he would long for a third valley, and nothing would fill the stomach of the son of Adam but dust.”  Meaning that , enough will never be enough and only the sand of the grave will fill mans belly. I mean if you really think about it, what value to most things in life have?
Take a car as a good example. Why do some people obsess over what car they or others have? A car is merely a thing to get from A to B, merely a tool of little to no value who’s only function is to transport the thing of actual value: The organic, squishy human being inside. Why do we care what we drive? It’s because we care what others opinions of us are, people we don’t even know in most cases, random strangers, we care what strangers think about us! We want to feel important, like we are people of worth, of honor, of respect. As if this aluminium and rubber and plastic bubble we hurtle along in makes us better human beings. Are you a better human being? What have you done today that added real value to someone else’s life other than yours? Did you use your expensive, latest series, self-parking, self-starting, heated seats, ass massaging, gleaming aluminium bubble to help someone else? Or did you use it simply for your own selfish needs.
Why are we here in any case, on this earth, in this life? What are we here for? To do what? For whom? For what end? Is it to make money, buy and collect things, struggle against others, compete, kick a ball around, run against each other, amuse ourselves endlessly with as much trivial, banal, mind destroying, soul crushing END-tertainment? Is this why humans were put on this earth? No higher purpose, just hairless (or well, less hairy) monkeys and apes? Well, you can believe that your ancestors were apes and neanderthals and whatever else if it makes you sleep easier at night. I will however, hold true that man was created and sent to this earth for a purpose: To worship God. Simple.
Not to worship at the altar of technology, not kneel before celebrities, not to waste time glued to screens watching grown men kick a pig’s bladder around for 90 mins. Not to waste time backbiting work colleagues or friends or neighbors. Not to make stupid people famous(Kardashians I’m looking at you) by buying into their mindless, soulless BS that they cleverly market and sell to us. Once you accept that worshiping God is your point, your mission, your reason for being here, then you may actually find out what being Human actually means!
